Materials & Quality
At LULU Copenhagen, we don’t choose materials based on tradition – we choose them based on what creates the best piece of jewelry.
Shape, size, weight, comfort, durability and price all play a role when we develop a design. That’s why we work with several different metals, each with its own strengths. It gives us the freedom to create jewelry with the look and quality we want, while still offering it at a fair price.
“There is no single best material. The best material is the one that works best for each individual design.”
Our Materials
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is a strong, durable and modern material that we use in a growing part of our collections.
It is particularly well suited to many jewelry designs because it is hard, holds its shape well and is highly resistant to everyday wear. At the same time, stainless steel oxidizes significantly less than silver and provides a stable base for surface finishes such as gold plating.
Brass
Brass gives us great freedom to create organic shapes, soft curves and details that can be difficult to achieve in other metals.
It is also strong, holds its shape well and is particularly suitable as a base for our surface finishes. When a design is made in brass, we always focus on quality, comfort and durability, and the material naturally complies with applicable EU requirements.
925 Sterling Silver
Sterling silver continues to be an important part of LULU Copenhagen and is used across a number of our collections.
Silver is a beautiful and classic precious metal with a distinctive shine that many people love. At the same time, it is a living material that can naturally oxidize and darken over time. This is completely normal and can easily be removed with proper care.
We choose sterling silver when it is the material that best suits the individual design and the experience we want to create.
Gold Plating
Many of our pieces are finished with a coating of 18-karat gold or IP gold plating.
The choice of base material is an important part of the finished result, and we always choose the combination of material and surface that best suits the individual design. As with all gold-plated jewelry, the surface will be affected by wear over time. How quickly this happens depends on factors such as skin chemistry, perfume, water, sweat and how the jewelry is worn.
Enamel
Many of our most iconic designs are characterized by hand-painted enamel.
Because the enamel is applied by hand, small variations in color and surface may occur. This is a natural part of the craftsmanship and makes each piece of jewelry slightly unique.
Baroque Pearls, Freshwater Pearls & Imitation Pearls
We use genuine baroque pearls and freshwater pearls as well as imitation pearls in selected collections.
Because genuine pearls are a natural material, they naturally vary in shape, size and surface. These small differences are part of their charm.
Glass Beads
We use small colored glass beads – also known as seed beads or rocaille beads – in selected designs. The small beads allow us to work with fine details, colors and creative combinations and are often used together with our own hand-painted beads.
Natural Stones
Natural stones are selected for their colors, texture and character.
No two natural stones are identical, and small variations are a natural characteristic of the material.
Crystals
We use different types of crystals to add shine, color and light to our designs. Crystals are selected with a focus on both quality and durability.

Surface Treatment
Several of our pieces are finished with a protective e-coating.
This transparent surface helps protect the jewelry from everyday wear and can help preserve both its shine and durability for longer.

Quality & Safety
Quality is not only about materials – it is also about documentation, control and trust.
All LULU Copenhagen jewelry complies with applicable EU legislation and is regularly tested for, among other things, nickel release and other relevant requirements.
As a Danish jewelry company, we are subject to the Danish Precious Metals Control (Ædelmetalkontrollen), which supervises the marking and precious metal content of jewelry. This is an important part of the quality assurance and transparency we want to provide to both our customers and our retailers.
We see quality as an ongoing process – from material selection and product development to continuous testing and inspection of the finished jewelry.

Nickel
Our jewelry is nickel-free and/or hypoallergenic and skin-friendly – and complies with all international quality standards.
Our stainless steel products are made from high-grade steel (surgical steel) and are 100% nickel-safe.

How to Care for Your Jewelry
The best way to care for a piece of jewelry depends, among other things, on its material and surface. You can find our current care and maintenance recommendations in our FAQ and on the individual product pages.

Our Approach
We believe quality is about the whole.
Materials, design, craftsmanship, comfort, use and responsible choices must work together to create jewelry that is worn and appreciated for many years.
That’s why we continuously develop our materials, production methods and quality control – always with the aim of creating jewelry that works well in everyday use, feels good to wear and stays beautiful over time.
